NH Nursing Workforce Center

Picture

A Nursing Workforce Center in NH will help to address nursing shortages and ensure an adequate supply of qualified nurses to help keep NH healthy.

Click here to take the Nursing Workforce Survey

Your participation helps us understand NH's nursing workforce and supports evidence based interventions.

If you know of other nurses or places that employ nurses that have not received the survey, please send it to them so we can get comprehensive data from across New Hampshire.

There are workforce centers in 42 states across the nation.  NH is one of four states with an emerging nursing workforce center.  (click here for location map).  Southern New Hampshire Area Health Education Center, in partnership with the New Hampshire Nurses Association (NHNA), and the University of New Hampshire, are leading the effort to build the infrastructure for a NH Nursing Workforce Center.  NHNA is currently the state representative of the National Forum of State Nursing workforce Centers (NFSNWC) as approved by the NFSNWC Board of Directors in (2024). National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers.
We partner with an advisory group with representation from academic institutions, healthcare organizations, government agencies, policymaking bodies, workforce development organizations, data stakeholders, nursing professional organizations and funding and grant agencies.

The creation of a nursing workforce center will formalize and streamline previous workforce efforts.  There are many factors contributing to the nursing shortage in NH.  A NH Nursing Workforce Center will help build a comprehensive sustainable approach to solve the nursing shortage for good

Misson
The New Hampshire Nursing Workforce Center will strengthen the nursing workforce through data-driven decisions, education, research, policy advocacy, and strategic partnerships.
Vision
To be the leading organization in New Hampshire driving innovative nursing workforce solutions that ensure a diverse, well-prepared, and sustainable nursing workforce contributing to a nursing shortage in NH. We need a comprehensive, sustainable approach to solve the nursing shortage for good!

Currently there is an incredible amount of good work happening in all these areas, but we may not be aware of it, able to share best practices, or collaborating because we don’t know of all the great work and what the gaps are.  Among nursing workforce centers across the county that are affecting change, the work falls into seven areas of impact:
  • K-12 Pipeline and pre-nursing pathways
  • Nursing education at the LPN, RN, and APRN levels
  • Health and wellbeing of the nursing workforce
  • Upskilling the workforce through academic or mentoring programs
  • Innovative care delivery models
  • Workforce data
  • Local, state, and federal policy

We have already completed two projects toward this work, one is a data inventory of the workforce data we currently have access to including the timeframes and limitations. The other is a crosswalk of the Universal Application that is required for licensure or renewal, with the Minimums Data Set recommended by the NFSNWC.

Through our work, we have recognized the health and wellbeing of the nursing workforce as a gap, which is why we are conducting this survey and plan to apply evidence-based interventions to address the areas identified.

Projects
  • Inventory of Available Workforce Data
  • Crosswalk of Universal Licensure Application to Minimum Data Set recommended by NFSNWC.
  • Meeting of Advisors
  • NH Workforce Nursing Wellness Survey
